Madurai LIC Office Fire Revealed as Murder Plot, Colleague Arrested
January 20, 2026
A tragic fire at the Madurai LIC office on December 17, 2025, has turned out to be a planned murder, not an accident. Senior officer A. Kalyani Nambi, 56, died after being trapped and charred in her chamber. Assistant administrative officer D. Ram, 46, also got burn injuries but was later arrested for the crime.
Police investigations revealed that Ram plotted the murder after Kalyani rebuked him for delaying over 40 death claim files. Angry and overworked, Ram planned to destroy the files. On that fateful night, when all others had left, Ram doused the files with petrol in Kalyani’s room, locked the door, and set it on fire. Kalyani got trapped and died in the flames. Ram was injured too due to petrol spilling on him.
Initially, police thought it was an accident. But suspicion rose when Ram gave a false story that a masked man had attacked Kalyani and set her on fire. Kalyani’s son told police that she had called him minutes before the fire, warning him to alert authorities but couldn’t explain clearly what happened.
Further investigation and scientific evidence exposed Ram’s deliberate crime. Ram was arrested on January 19, 2026, from his house while still recovering from injuries. He was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital.
The police continue their investigation into this shocking betrayal in Madurai’s LIC office.
