Cold Wave Hits Punjab and Haryana: Amritsar Records Chilly 2.8°C

Cold weather conditions stayed strong in parts of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. According to the Meteorological department, Amritsar was the coldest place in Punjab with a low temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius, one degree below the normal minimum. Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a chilly low of 6 degrees Celsius.
Other cities in Punjab saw cold lows as well. Pathankot hit 4.7 degrees Celsius, while Faridkot and Bathinda both recorded 5.2 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Patiala experienced minimums of 5.4 and 8.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In Haryana, the cold snapped too. Bhiwani recorded 5.5 degrees Celsius, and Hisar was close at 5.7 degrees Celsius. Ambala saw 8.8 degrees Celsius, Gurugram 9 degrees Celsius, and Karnal 7.8 degrees Celsius. Both Sirsa and Narnaul reported identical lows of 6.5 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological department data shows that chilly winds and low temperatures are keeping residents bundling up across both states.
