Kerala Police Ordered to Act on False Report in Thrissur Rape Case
January 20, 2026
The Kerala State Police Complaints Authority has ordered legal action against police officers who filed a false report in court without properly investigating a rape complaint. The case involves a man from Thrissur, M.N. Janardhanan Nambiar, who was wrongly prosecuted. After a detailed inquiry, the authority confirmed the complaint's validity and found that the officers had deliberately failed in their duties. Earlier, the Thrissur Assistant Sessions Court acquitted Nambiar of the rape charge. The authority said, "Submitting a misleading report to court without a thorough and impartial investigation amounted to serious misconduct and warranted legal action against the officers involved." It has instructed the Inspector General of Police in Thrissur to register cases against the responsible officers. Those named include former Guruvayoor police Circle Inspectors K.G. Suresh and K. Sudarshan (retired), and former Assistant Commissioner of Police Sivadasan from the District Crime Records Bureau, Thrissur. This directive follows a Kerala High Court ruling from December 2024, which ordered the authority to speed up the complaint process that had been pending for nearly ten years.
