Janata Dal (Secular) has asked the Karnataka State Election Commission to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for elections to five corporations in the Greater Bengaluru Authority area. JD(S) general secretary Venkatrao Nadagouda told reporters on Wednesday that the party filed a petition stressing EVMs' benefits and the problems with ballot papers. "The misuse of EVMs in elections has not been proved yet and hence ballot paper should not be used," he said. He added that the BJP made a similar request to the SEC. Nadagouda welcomed former MP D.K. Suresh's statement supporting EVM use. He also said that JD(S) and BJP will contest the Greater Bengaluru Authority elections in an alliance, clarifying there is no confusion about going together. Preparations for the elections are ongoing, with another meeting to be led by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy soon.
