Centre for Liberty (CFL) Chairman A.B. Venkateswara Rao has alleged serious financial irregularities in the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL). In a complaint to the A.P. Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), Mr. Rao said APSPDCL made excess payments for transformers, causing avoidable losses of around ₹14.65 crore. He claimed contracts were given to specific vendors on a nomination basis, not through an open tender process. Mr. Rao also stated that APSPDCL paid higher prices for Star-2 transformers than neighbouring States. Additionally, the company ordered costly Star-5 transformers for agricultural use, which do not benefit agricultural power needs. He requested APERC to disallow these costs in APSPDCL’s Annual Revenue Requirement filing for 2026-27 and to order a full investigation.
