Another FIR has been lodged against five builders of Lotus Greens Construction Pvt Ltd and MZ Wiztown Planners Pvt Ltd for violating environmental and pollution laws. This is linked to a large waterlogged pit in Sector 150, Noida, where a software engineer drowned. Officials confirmed the FIR on Thursday, January 22, 2026. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Uttar Pradesh government is still investigating the case on its third day. The SIT has asked for details from Noida Authority's civil, projects, and traffic departments about work done near the pit. The three-member SIT, led by ADG Bhanu Bhaskar, will report to the government by Saturday. On January 21, a new FIR was registered at Knowledge Park police station. The accused are Abhay Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Manish Kumar, Anchal Bohra, and Nirmal Kumar. Charges include violations of Environment Protection Act 1986, Water Prevention and Control of Pollution Act 1974, and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complaint by sub-inspector Regal Kumar stated that the large, deep pit near a public road was excavated using heavy machinery and has held stagnant water for years. The pit water is muddy and polluted due to rain carrying garbage. It also causes foul smell, affecting nearby residents. No fencing or safety signs were installed, posing a public hazard. Construction sites nearby violated safety norms. The plot was bought from Noida Authority in 2014 by Lotus Greens and later acquired in 2020 by MZ Wiztown. Lotus Greens still owns part of the property. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hemant Upadhyay said the FIR is against five builders and investigation continues. Earlier, on January 18, police had filed the first FIR after a complaint from the deceased engineer Yuvraj Mehta's father against the two companies for negligence and culpable homicide. On January 20, Abhay Kumar, director of MZ Wiztown Planners, was arrested and sent to judicial custody on January 21.
