UAE Travellers Book Summer 2026 Trips Early Amid Visa Delays and Rising Costs
January 22, 2026
UAE residents are starting to book their summer 2026 trips as early as January, six months before peak travel time. This is because visa appointment delays for Schengen and UK visas have doubled, stretching to 45–60 days. Many risk missing July and August travel dates if they wait until spring to apply.
Long visa queues especially affect families with school children who need to plan carefully. Travel consultants say early bookings help avoid last-minute hurdles. Rising travel costs also push travellers to act fast. Flight fares and hotel prices rise sharply closer to summer, making early deals more attractive.
Visa fees for Schengen visas have increased from €80 to €90 (around Dh339), with extra service fees adding to costs. This makes early planning even more valuable to save money and secure slots.
Some travellers are exploring UK or other visa routes that might be faster but pricier. Travel experts advise applying for visas up to six months before travel, using the earliest window allowed. Booking flights and hotels early is also recommended to avoid price hikes.
Due to these changes, some travellers are considering visa-friendly or visa-free destinations in Asia and Africa to bypass Schengen visa delays.
Looking ahead, a GCC unified tourist visa expected after 2026 could simplify travel in the Gulf. Europe will also introduce ETIAS, an entry authorization system, expected by late 2026, adding new travel requirements.
Overall, UAE travellers are adapting by booking early, submitting visa applications sooner, and choosing destinations strategically. The visa delays and rising costs are reshaping summer travel plans for 2026 unlike any previous year.
