Belagavi Police Bans Heavy Vehicles During Peak Hours to Curb Traffic Chaos
January 22, 2026
Belagavi police have launched new steps to control traffic jams and accidents. Heavy vehicles will not be allowed from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. from now on. This measure aims to protect school students, parents, and the public. Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao said this ban is effective immediately. Those who break the rule will face fines under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Traffic has increased recently, so police have also set designated spots for private buses to pick and drop passengers. Heavy vehicles causing congestion by stopping at busy spots like RTO Circle and Triveni Hotel will no longer be allowed. These rules start on January 27.
Vehicles must park in paid parking areas near Bharatesh School, behind Ashoka Nagar Belagavi One Centre, and on Ashoka Nagar Road from Dharmanath Circle. Police will meet private bus operators on January 27 for further guidelines. Illegal parking is banned from Triveni Hotel to Central Bus Stand Circle and from Kirti Hotel Cross to Sangolli Rayanna Circle to help pedestrians. On some roads, parking will happen on alternate days.
Commissioner Borase urged people to follow these rules strictly. Legal action will be taken as per Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act against violators. Last year, Belagavi police registered 1,001 no-entry violation cases, collecting over ₹4 lakh in fines.
