H-1B Visa Stamping in India Delayed Till 2027; US Also Revoking Visas Amid Tightening Rules
January 23, 2026
The H-1B visa stamping delay in India that started last December is still ongoing. No new interview dates have opened. Now, US consulates defer interviews to 2027. Immigration experts say the situation won’t improve soon. They advise H-1B holders in the US not to travel to India for visa stamping as dates keep moving back.
Last December, hundreds of H-1B visa holders got stuck in India. They went for their visa stamping but were told their interviews were postponed to 2026 due to new social media checks by visa officers. Those with interviews in January and February also got emails delaying their appointments to April or May 2027.
Immigration attorney Emily Neumann said, "They are not in any hurry to give you a visa. They are trying to deny visas whenever they can. It is a completely different world from what we saw during the Biden administration. This administration does not want to give you visa."
Along with delays, the US State Department is now revoking visas prudentially, including those of H-4 visa holders tied to H-1B spouses. Prudential revocation means cancelling visas based on new information that suggests the holder may no longer qualify. Experts spot cases where an H-4 spouse went for stamping only to learn their visa was revoked because of an old DUI record of the H-1B spouse.
This combination of delays and revocations signals tougher US policies impacting many Indian visa holders.
