IMD Predicts Thunderstorms and Rain in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana on January 23

Early morning rain on January 23, 2026, cooled many parts of New Delhi. Several localities recorded light to moderate rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said cloudy conditions will continue all day. A western disturbance is causing thunderstorms and rain in Delhi and nearby areas today.
The IMD forecasts one or two spells of light rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 30-40 kmph in the early morning to forenoon. Another light rain shower may occur in the afternoon or evening.
Punjab and Haryana will also face thunderstorms, lightning, moderate rain, and gusty winds during the morning, as per an IMD tehsil-level nowcast valid from around 6:25 a.m. to 9:25 a.m.
In Punjab, areas like Budhlada, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others are likely to see moderate rain and thunderstorms. Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are expected here as well. Light rain will fall in places such as Bathinda, Faridkot, and Jalandhar.
Haryana towns including Bhiwani, Hisar, Karnal, Jind, Panchkula, Ambala, and others will experience similar weather with moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Light rain is forecast for locations like Gurugram, Rohtak, Faridabad, and Sonipat.
No formal weather warning has been issued yet, but the IMD urges residents to stay alert, monitor weather updates, and take precautions during thunderstorms and strong winds.
