Marwaan Mohamed Huseen, 20, pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court to causing the death of Marcus Fakana by dangerous driving. Fakana, a British teenager recently freed from Dubai prison, died after a high-speed police chase ended in a crash in Tottenham, north London. The collision occurred early on 3 October last year when Huseen's BMW crashed into a lorry while fleeing police. Fakana was a passenger and died in hospital; another passenger was seriously injured. Huseen admitted multiple offences including driving without a licence, without insurance, and failing to stop. The fatal crash happened shortly after officers lost sight of the car on Pretoria Road. Huseen was arrested at the scene and has been in custody since. Fakana had returned to the UK just three months earlier after a royal pardon freed him from almost a year in Dubai prison. He was jailed for a relationship deemed illegal under UAE law but legal in the UK. His death shocked supporters and campaigners who had lobbied for his release. Radha Sterling of Detained in Dubai said she was “heartbroken” and noted Fakana’s hope and faith after prison. Sentencing for Huseen is set to be scheduled at a hearing on 27 February.
