Ayurvedic Doctor Consumes Poison Outside Vidhana Soudha, Alleges Police Harassment
January 24, 2026
An Ayurvedic doctor named Nagendra S., about 40 years old and from north Bengaluru, consumed poison on Saturday opposite Vidhana Soudha, the city's heart. This happened at 11:15 a.m., amid heavy foot traffic. Nagendra accused the police of harassing him because he reported what he called 'illegal Bangladeshi' residents. Before reaching the spot, Nagendra had already consumed poison. He spoke to mediapersons, making his accusations. Police saw a bottle in his hand and quickly took it away. Officers said Nagendra had recorded a video accusing police and posted it on social media before coming to Vidhana Soudha. Nagendra mentioned that his actions were inspired by Puneeth Kerehalli, who was recently arrested for allegedly trespassing and threatening migrant workers to get their personal documents. Both Kerehalli and Nagendra are named in a case registered at Soladevanahalli police station. Police had been searching for Nagendra for several days before the incident. Nagendra was taken to Bowring Hospital immediately and is reported to be out of danger. Police continue their investigation.
