‘Republic Day of the Poor’ Planned in Yelahanka to Highlight Urban Poor’s Rights
January 24, 2026
A 'Republic Day of the Poor' will be held on January 26 at Fakeer Colony in Kogilu Layout, Yelahanka. The event is organised by Dudiyuva Janara Vedike, along with other groups. More than 160 houses were demolished here by civic authorities recently. The organisers say the event is meant to reaffirm key constitutional values like social justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. It will spotlight the real-life struggles of marginalised communities while marking the Constitution’s adoption. The demonstration aims to show how constitutional principles should address the issues faced by the urban poor and other vulnerable groups.
