MHA Unveils Tableau on New Criminal Laws at Republic Day 2026
January 24, 2026
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will present a special tableau on Republic Day. It will show the new criminal laws: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. These laws came into force on July 1, 2024. The tableau will be displayed on Kartavya Path during the 77th Republic Day Parade.
MHA said the tableau highlights India’s move to a modern, tech-driven, and citizen-friendly justice system. Key features include e-Sakshya for digital evidence, the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) for biometric ID, and e-Summon to send court summons electronically. Virtual court hearings and integration among police, forensics, prosecution, courts, and prisons under the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) are also shown.
Mobile forensic units in the tableau symbolize quick forensic help at crime spots. It also shows fast response through integrated control rooms and better CCTV surveillance. The role of trained women police in the field and response teams is highlighted.
The tableau also presents community service as a humane punishment option under the new laws. This reflects a progressive approach to justice in India.
