ECI uploads voter discrepancy list for West Bengal as Supreme Court orders display
January 25, 2026
On January 26, 2026, the Election Commission of India (ECI) uploaded the names of voters with logical discrepancies on its website. This step comes after a Supreme Court order on January 19. The court demanded the list be displayed at gram panchayat bhavans, block offices of talukas, and ward offices in West Bengal by January 24. A poll panel official told PTI, “The lists of unmapped voters and those with logical discrepancies are on our website.” The discrepancies refer mainly to mismatches in voter parent names and age differences that are suspicious—less than 15 years or more than 50 years between a voter and their parent as per the 2002 voter list data. The court noted that around 1.25 crore voters in West Bengal appear on this logical discrepancies list. District electoral officers will now download these lists and display them publicly as per the court’s directions. However, the poll panel faced challenges as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) did not receive the required software until late on January 23. Despite this delay, the ECI moved ahead with publishing and directing the display of these lists. This action aims to improve the transparency and accuracy of voter records ahead of elections in the state.
