On January 19, residents of rural areas across Yadgir district paid ₹3.12 crore in tax in a single day. This came after the Zilla Panchayat officials appealed to people to clear their long-pending tax dues. The drive was led by Lavish Ordia, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, along with a team of officials and self-help women’s groups from the National Rural Livelihood Mission. Mr. Ordia said, “We had a bit of doubt whether people will respond to our appeal, as they have already suffered crop losses. But the way they welcomed our team inspired us to move forward.” Despite tough financial times caused by huge crop losses, the strong response showed the residents’ commitment to paying taxes for government services. This successful tax collection placed Yadgir district 13th in the state for tax recovery. In a similar earlier drive on November 27, 2025, ₹2.68 crore was collected in a day. Traders and businessmen also contributed significantly. Mr. Ordia promised that collected taxes will be used for development works under a special action plan with no misappropriations. He expressed confidence that Yadgir will soon top the state in tax collection.
