Five women police officers from the NTR Police Commissionerate will lead a 35-day cycle rally to spread awareness against drugs and ganja. The rally, called ‘Drugs Pai Dandayatra,’ will start on January 27 at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav will flag it off. Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta and other officials will attend the opening event, said Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu. The 510-km journey will cover areas including Ibrahimpatnam, G. Konduru, Kanchikacherla, Chandarlapadu, Nandigama, Penuganchiprolu, Jaggaiahpeta, Vatsavai, A. Konduru, Reddygudem, Mylavaram, Veerlapadu, Tiruvuru, Vissannapeta, and Vijayawada Rural and Urban mandals. The five participating policewomen are Woman Probation Sub-Inspector Kadali Revathi, head constable Gummadi Hymavathi, and constables Shaik Bibi Sailaja, Chepu Triveni, and Vaiboina Usha Rani, shared Deputy Commissioner of Police K.G.V. Saritha. During the rally, the officers will meet villagers, hold public meetings, and run awareness programs. They will explain the negative effects of drug use and peddling. “The five women police officers will interact with the villagers, conduct public meetings, awareness programmes, explain the consequences of drug peddling or consumption and administer pledge to the locals,” said Police Commissioner Rajasekhara Babu. Public representatives, government officials, the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), students, and local police will join parts of the rally, mentioned Ms. Saritha. The rally aims to build a drug-free society by educating people on drug harms and stopping drug and ganja peddling, the Police Commissioner added.
