On January 26, 2026, India celebrated its 77th Republic Day with a spectacular military parade on Kartavya Path. The event displayed missiles, new army units, elite marching teams, and indigenous weapons used in Operation Sindoor. The parade's theme was 150 years of 'Vande Mataram'. President Droupadi Murmu, along with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as chief guests, took the salute. They arrived in a traditional buggy and were flanked by the Indian president's bodyguards. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, other Union Ministers, military leaders, diplomats, and officials watched the parade. Around 100 artists opened the event with 'Vividata Mein Ekta', a musical show celebrating India's unity and diverse culture. Lt. General Bhavnish Kumar led the parade, which featured a new phased 'Battle Array Format' of the Indian Army including aerial support. The display included a high mobility reconnaissance vehicle, India's first indigenous armoured light specialist vehicle, Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters, Rudra armed helicopters, T-90 Bhisma and Arjun tanks, Apache AH-64E, and Prachand light combat helicopters. Mechanised columns showed off BMP-II Infantry Combat Vehicles and the Nag missile system Mk-2. A military group from the European Union marched with flags representing EU naval operations Atalanta and Aspides. This marked the EU's first ever participation in such a parade outside Europe. Key weapon systems highlighted were the Suryastra Universal Rocket Launcher System (URLS), Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles, and Akash missile systems.
