January 26, 2026
Mysuru celebrated its 77th Republic Day on January 26 with an inspiring march past at Bannimantap's Torch Light Parade Ground. A key highlight was the participation of pourakarmikas, the city’s hardworking civic workers who keep Mysuru clean. They marched proudly among 24 groups, including police, fire services, NCC, Scouts and Guides, and others.
The event was inaugurated by Mysuru district Minister H. C. Mahadevappa, who hoisted the national flag. He announced the city’s big goal to earn the ‘7-Star Garbage Free City’ certification under Swachh Survekshan 2025-26. “I request the cooperation of all citizens to achieve this goal through 100% waste segregation at the household level, reduction in single-use plastic, scientific waste management, cleanliness of public places, and active participation of schools, markets, offices and institutions in keeping the city clean,” he said.
The cultural program featured lively dance performances by students from Teresian Convent Girls’ High School, DAV Public School, Mahabodhi School, and Capitol Public School, celebrating themes of patriotism, unity, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The event was chaired by former Minister Tanveer Sait and attended by dignitaries including MP Sunil Bose, Regional Commissioner Nitesh Patil, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikant Reddy, Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, and other senior officials. The celebrations combined respect for the nation with a push towards a cleaner, greener Mysuru.
