In a fiery start to the day's session, the Lok Sabha was buzzing over demands to debate the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Bihar. But Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju quickly put a lid on it. He told the house, "The Lok Sabha cannot discuss the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Bihar because this matter is pending before the Supreme Court." He reminded members firmly that the rules of the Lok Sabha prevent any discussion on sub-judice matters – those still being looked at by the courts. The Opposition, eager to push their demand for a discussion, continued their protests after the House resumed at 2 pm. But Rijiju was clear: "The rules of the Lok Sabha do not allow sub-judice matters to be discussed on the floor of the House." He also highlighted a vital point about respecting the independence of important institutions. Rijiju said, "The functioning of autonomous institutions such as the Election Commission cannot be discussed in Parliament." Closing his statement with a call for focus, he urged all MPs to take part actively and constructively in debates during the passage of major laws. This stern message stopped the debate on the electoral revision issue dead in its tracks, keeping the Lok Sabha’s spotlight firmly on legislation rather than ongoing judicial matters or institutional functioning.
