Old Alwal Community Marks Republic Day with Fire Safety Drill After Diwali Fire Incident
January 26, 2026
Residents of Mahalaxmi’s Sai Srinivasam Apartments in Old Alwal combined patriotism with safety on Republic Day by conducting a mock fire drill. This comes after a mattress fire broke out during Diwali when a lamp fell during puja. Quick action by residents, some trained in fire safety, prevented a tragedy. The Board of Directors used the celebrations to stress the importance of knowing fire prevention. Representatives from Aditya Fire & Safety Systems showed how to douse a fire and invited youngsters and security staff to practice using ABC-type extinguishers. They also explained key emergency steps to take. SSA President Karthik and Treasurer V. Goverdhan Rao said the gated community, which houses over 600 people, must be prepared for fire incidents. The four-block complex follows Fire Services Department guidelines and is well equipped. Additionally, former Indian Air Force JCO Sushil Tyagi donated fire extinguishers worth ₹2 lakh to boost safety equipment. This drill aims to arm residents with essential fire safety skills to protect lives and property.
