Hyderabad Marks 77th Republic Day with Flag Hoisting and Police Honors

Hyderabad woke up to patriotic songs and an unusual calm on its main roads during the long Republic Day weekend. The tricolour flew on government buildings as official ceremonies took place across the city to mark the 77th Republic Day. At the DGP’s office, Additional Director General of Police D.S. Chauhan hoisted the national flag and received a salute from police personnel, who also gave a guard of honour. Officers including AIG Law and Order Ramana Kumar and DSP Venugopal attended the event.
At the City Armed Reserve headquarters in Petla Buruj, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar hoisted the flag and received the guard of honour. He announced that all Hyderabad Commissionerate police personnel will undergo thorough medical exams. "Individual health profiles" will be created, and staff will be categorized from A to E based on their health, with treatment plans accordingly. Sajjanar praised the police for working hard during festivals often away from family and said, "their role in preventing untoward incidents is commendable."
The Commissioner also announced strengthening the H-NEW unit to fight drug issues and plans to form special teams with Food Safety officials to stop adulteration. He urged citizens not to believe social media rumors and to contact police through Dial 100. "Personnel must treat the public with respect and ensure timely complaint redressal," he instructed. The ceremony was attended by senior officials like Additional CP Srinivasulu and Joint CP Shweta.
At the Anti-Corruption Bureau headquarters, Director Tarun Joshi hoisted the flag and handed out notebooks and pens to students. Twenty-one officers received Uthama Seva and Seva medals for their service.
India Post celebrated the day at the National Sorting Hub, where Postmaster General N.R. Visalatchy honored employees for their work in digital transformation and excellent service.
In Cyberabad, Police Commissioner M. Ramesh hoisted the flag at the Commissionerate and paid tribute to freedom fighters. He spoke about the Constitution’s significance and the police’s role in upholding it. Medals for gallantry and distinguished service were awarded, including the President’s Distinguished Service Medal and the Police Medal for Gallantry to Head Constable Marri Venkat Reddy. Several current and retired officers were honored in the event, attended by senior Cyberabad Police officials.
