Parents of Gangster Goldy Brar Arrested in Punjab Extortion Case

The parents of gangster Goldy Brar were arrested on Monday in Muktsar district, Punjab, a senior police officer confirmed. Shamsher Singh and Preetpal Kaur, who live in Adesh Nagar, Muktsar, were taken into custody over a 2024 extortion case. Their family originates from Faridkot district. The complaint came from a Muktsar resident and led to an FIR last year. Goldy Brar is a key accused in the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and had claimed responsibility for it. Punjab Police are continuing a strict crackdown on gangsters. They have identified 1,200 associates of 60 foreign-based gangsters and 600 family members involved in crimes. Goldy Brar is believed to be in the U.S. now. He moved to Canada in 2017 on a student visa and previously belonged to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang before joining the Brar-Rohit Godara-Kala Jatheri gang last year. In 2024, the government labeled him a terrorist for smuggling weapons and explosives via drones to commit killings in India.
