Telangana Sets February 11 for Municipal Elections Covering 7 Corporations, 116 Municipalities

Telangana is ready for local elections on February 11, 2026. The State Election Commission announced the schedule on January 27. The election will cover 2,582 wards across 116 municipalities and 414 wards in 7 municipal corporations, spanning 32 districts.
A total of 52.43 lakh voters will cast their ballots, including 26.80 lakh women, 25.62 lakh men, and 640 others. Election notifications will be issued on January 28, with nominations starting right away. Candidates must submit their nominations by January 30. These will be scrutinized on January 31.
Candidates whose nominations are rejected can appeal to the District Election Authority on February 1. Appeals will be resolved by February 2. The last date to withdraw nominations is February 3, when the final list of candidates will also be published post 3 pm.
If necessary, re-polling will take place on February 12. Vote counting will start on February 13, with results announced that evening.
State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini Devi has called on voters of expired and newly formed municipal bodies to elect ward members. The oath-taking ceremony for elected members is scheduled for February 16 at 11 a.m. A special meeting to elect Chairpersons, Mayors, and their deputies will follow at 12:30 p.m. The election for Vice-Chairpersons and Deputy Mayors will only happen once Chairpersons and Mayors are elected.
Earlier, the Commissioner held a video conference with Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy, and other senior officials to review election readiness. The vibrant local polls in Telangana promise an active democratic exercise across the state.
