Only Two Nipah Virus Cases Reported in West Bengal Since December 2025

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed only two cases of Nipah Virus disease in West Bengal from December 2025 to date, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. After confirming these cases, the Central Government worked closely with West Bengal’s authorities to launch strong public health actions following official protocols. So far, 196 people linked to these cases have been traced, tested, and monitored. All of them have no symptoms and tested negative for Nipah Virus Disease. Authorities intensified surveillance, lab testing, and field work through joint efforts of Central and State health teams to stop the virus from spreading quickly. The Health Ministry stated, "The situation is under constant monitoring, and all necessary public health measures are in place." No new Nipah Virus cases have been reported since the two confirmed cases.
