Two habitual offenders involved in gold chain snatching were caught by Chaitanyapuri police on Tuesday. They are Akshay Kumar Sharma, 29, and Rohit, 26, both delivery boys from Delhi-NCR. The duo attacked women while riding a two-wheeler. Police found they used the same bike earlier to steal in Gopalapuram, then moved through Hayathnagar, Nagole, and Chaitanyapuri. After the thefts, they left the bike near Sangeetha Theatre X roads in Secunderabad and fled to Delhi. Chaitanyapuri police formed three special teams. They used CCTV, phone records, and technical surveillance to track the suspects. One team went to Delhi and arrested both men. The stolen gold chains were recovered. Three chains weighing over 55 grams were found, including a 6.4-gram chain from Chaitanyapuri, a 20.8-gram chain from Nagole, and a 28-gram chain from Hayathnagar. Two mobile phones used by the accused were also seized. Police said the men have a long criminal history of property crimes in Delhi and Nagpur. Akshay faces at least 21 cases between 2017 and 2024, including chain snatching, theft, and arms offenses. Rohit is linked to 13 cases. Both were arrested by Nagpur police in July 2025 and jailed. After they were released, they resumed crimes and took part in at least seven chain snatching cases in Hyderabad before the January 17 incidents. Chaitanyapuri police connected the accused to nine cases across Hyderabad and Malkajgiri zones. L.B. Nagar zone Deputy Commissioner of Police B. Anuradha advised the public to stay alert in crowded or isolated places and report suspicious activity immediately by calling 100 or visiting the nearest police station.
