Hyderabad Police rolls out AI system for fair duty allocation in City Armed Reserve
January 28, 2026
The Hyderabad Police launched a Generative AI-based duty allocation system for its City Armed Reserve on Tuesday. This new system replaces the older manual process, which was slow, prone to errors, and sometimes seen as biased. Developed in just two months, the AI platform aims to bring fairness, efficiency, and transparency to duty assignments. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the system will free senior officers from routine paperwork and let them focus more on actual policing. The AI uses a score-based model based on the Hungarian Method, an established optimization technique. It considers objective factors like seniority, days in reserve, rewards earned, disciplinary record, and health to assign duties fairly. In its first run, the system handled 1,796 applications and assigned 208 duties, including work at the Secretariat, Chief Minister’s Office, traffic control, and interceptor vehicles. At the launch, duty orders generated by the AI system were handed out to the City Armed Reserve constables at the CAR Headquarters. The event was attended by top police officials, including Additional Commissioners M. Srinivas and Tafseer Iqbal, Joint Commissioners D. Joel Davis and Swetha, Deputy Commissioner R. Venkateshwarlu, and other senior officers.
