On January 29, 2026, the Supreme Court of India ordered the Election Commission of India (ECI) to publicly display the names of voters with logical discrepancies in every ward. These discrepancies include mismatches in father’s name, parents’ ages, large age differences between parents, grandparents, and those with more than six children. The Court allowed affected voters to submit documents or objections through authorised representatives like Booth Level Agents (BLA). It also directed the State Government to provide enough staff to the ECI and State Election Commission to handle the verification process and hear affected persons. This decision came while hearing an application filed by DMK leader R.S. Bharathi. He reported that Electoral Registration Officers had issued "logical discrepancy forms" to 1.7 crore voters in the state. The move aims to ensure transparency and accuracy in the voter list before elections.
