This fiery movement, launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942, was a powerful call to end British Rule. It became a turning point in India’s struggle for independence. In Mumbai, political leaders and citizens gathered at the historic August Kranti Maidan, once known as Gowalia Tank, where the movement first took off. Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal, along with Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, paid floral tributes to the statue of the legendary Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak at Girgaum Chowpatty. They then marched to August Kranti Maidan and laid wreaths at the martyrs' memorial to honor those who sacrificed everything for India’s freedom. Sharad Pawar, president of NCP (SP), took to X, saying, "On this day, the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, expressed his resolve with 'Do or Die', urging Indians to fight bravely against the British and issuing a stern warning to the unjust British rule to quit India." He added that this call stirred a wave of unrest and marked a crucial step on India’s path to freedom. Senior NCP leader and Minister Chhagan Bhujbal also paid floral tributes at the memorial. School children and citizens visited the historic ground, soaking in the inspiring atmosphere. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar tweeted, "On this day in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave the message of 'Do or Die' and gave a call for the Quit India Movement against the British. The August revolution was not just a call for freedom, but a firm resolve of collective determination of all Indians for independence." He paid heartfelt homage to all freedom fighters who showed sacrifice, dedication, and courage. This historic day reminds every Indian of the power of unity and courage. The fiery call, "Quit India," is not just a memory but a burning flame that lit the way to a free India.
