The Davanagere district police have arrested Saraswati, a woman who recently married Harish from Gummanur village, and her lover Kumar. Saraswati married Harish three months ago in a match arranged by her uncle Rudresh from Anekonda. On January 23, Saraswati eloped with Kumar. After this, Harish ended his life. His body was found near a tree on January 26. When Rudresh heard the news, he also tried to commit suicide and died on January 27. Harish left a note saying he did not commit any mistake. He wrote that after Saraswati eloped, she falsely accused him of torture and he was threatened by her relatives. Harish’s father complained to the police that his son was assaulted and threatened by Kumar, and demanded action against Saraswati, her parents and Kumar. Police arrested Saraswati on January 28 and Kumar on January 29. Both face charges of abetment to suicide.
