The Cincinnati Open lit up as Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka stormed into the third round with fantastic wins on August 9, 2025. These world number one stars, returning after Wimbledon, showed why they are tennis royalty. Sinner blasted Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan 6-1, 6-1 under the hot Ohio sun. With 17 winners and only four unforced errors, Sinner was unstoppable. He won in just 59 minutes — the fastest match of his career. Sinner said, "I didn't know what to expect. I'm happy because it's not easy to play here. The ball is flying and you have to serve very precise if you want to go far in the tournament." On the other side, Sabalenka fought hard against tricky opponent Marketa Vondrousova, 2023 Wimbledon champ herself. Sabalenka took a 7-5, 6-1 win in 54 minutes under the thrilling night lights. "It's always a tough match against her," said Sabalenka about Vondrousova. "She pushed me to the limit. If you lose focus even a little bit it can cost you a set. I had to fight for every point against her." Next up for Sabalenka is Britain's Emma Raducanu, fresh from a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Meanwhile, other big names faced bumps. Eighth-seeded Lorenz Musetti and 11th-seeded Casper Ruud were knocked out by French challengers Benjamin Bonzi and Artur Rinderknech. Rinderknech said, "I stayed aggressive throughout the match. You cannot let Casper start to dictate." Seventh-seed Holger Rune won smoothly and will meet American Alex Michelsen next. In women’s matches, Iga Swiatek, the reigning Wimbledon queen, also cruised with a 6-1, 6-4 win. Swiatek, who dreams of winning Cincinnati, kept her cool and said, "I wanted to play solid - but intense as well." Australian Open winner Madison Keys showed grit in a long battle, winning 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 after saving match points.
