Police on Friday, January 30, 2026, recovered the body of a woman from Bihar at Perungudi dump yard. The woman, her husband Gaurav Kumar, and their toddler son were killed on January 24 in Taramani, Chennai. The suspects, also from Bihar, were arrested for the triple murder. Earlier, on January 26, a man’s body was found in a gunny bag near Indira Nagar. The man was identified as Gaurav Kumar, a migrant labourer from Bathiyabar village in Sheikhpura district, Bihar. Gaurav had come to Chennai with his family seeking work. Police questioned Sathyender alias Santhosh Kumar, a watchman at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Taramani, who knew Gaurav. On the night of January 24, Gaurav, Sathyender, and two others, Lalit Yadav and Vikash Kumar, were drinking together at a building on the ICT campus. A fight broke out, and the three men attacked Gaurav, his wife, and their child with iron rods, killing them. Their bodies were tied in gunny bags and dumped at different spots. CCTV footage showed two suspects carrying a body on a two-wheeler. The child’s body was later found in Buckingham Canal near Madhya Kailash. The woman’s body was retrieved from the Perungudi dump yard after a large search. The woman’s body was decomposed and sent for post-mortem at Government Royapettah Hospital to check cause of death and any injuries. Gaurav’s body was handed to his elder brother for funeral rites in Bihar. Police continue to investigate and are looking into the involvement of two more suspects.
