Peeyush Pandey Named New West Bengal DGP in Major Police Reshuffle Ahead of Polls

In a major change, senior IPS officer Peeyush Pandey has been appointed as the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal. Mr. Pandey, from the 1993 batch, will take charge after the current DGP Rajeev Kumar retires on January 31. This reshuffle comes just months before the West Bengal Assembly elections. Manoj Kumar Verma, the current Commissioner of Kolkata Police, has been named Director of Security for West Bengal. Supratim Sarkar, ADG and IGP of South Bengal, will become the new Commissioner of Police, Kolkata. Vineet Kumar Goyal, ADG and IGP of the Special Task Force (STF), has been posted as ADG (Law and Order) with additional charge of ADG (Anti-Corruption Bureau). Jawed Shamim, ADG and IGP (Law and Order), now takes charge as ADG of the Special Task Force plus additional charge of ADG Intelligence Branch. Other key moves include Praveen Kumar Tripathi moving from Howrah Police Commissioner to Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore; Murli Dhar shifting from Barrackpore to Bidhannagar Commissioner of Police; Amit P Javalgi newly posted as IGP, Burdwan Range; and Mukesh posted as IGP of Murshidabad and Jangipur Range. Additional transfers involve Syed Waquar Raza, Akash Magharia, Bhaskar Mukherjee, and Koteswara Rao all taking on new responsibilities. These changes aim to strengthen police leadership ahead of crucial elections.
