Five people died in two gas explosions in Iran, officials confirmed. One explosion hit an eight-floor residential building in Bandar Abbas, a Gulf port city. It killed one person and injured 14. The blast destroyed two floors, vehicles, and shops on Moallem Boulevard. Local fire chief Mohammad Amin Liaqat said it was caused by a gas leak and "build-up." Injured victims were taken to hospital. In a separate incident, four people died in Ahvaz, a city near the Iraq border. The explosion struck a residential building in the Kianshahr neighborhood. Emergency crews rescued a child trapped in the debris and moved him for medical care. The explosions come amid regional tensions after a rise in US forces near the Gulf. President Donald Trump warned Iran that "time was running out" to reach a deal on its nuclear programme. Iranian officials say their nuclear activities are peaceful and rejected US claims about weapon development. Iran’s foreign minister stressed that missile defense will "never" be negotiated but said talks with the US could happen if based on trust and respect. Trump also said Iran must do "two things to avoid military action - no nuclear and stop killing protesters." The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency says over 6,300 people have died during unrest since last December, with many more under investigation. The severe gas leaks and blasts add to the dangerous climate as political pressures mount in the region.
