Man Charged in Over 50 Vehicle Break-Ins Across Mississauga, Police Seek More Suspects
February 2, 2026
Police in Canada have charged Basil Ass’ad, 20, for dozens of vehicle break-ins across Mississauga. He was arrested on January 26 after many reports from December 2025. The offences occurred in neighbourhoods like Kimbermount Avenue, Aquitaine Avenue, and Regents Terrace.
Peel Regional Police said Ass’ad has no fixed address. Residents reported thefts of cash, jewellery, and credit cards from parked cars. Police used surveillance footage to identify him.
Ass’ad faces 48 counts of mischief over $5,000, two counts of theft over $5,000, five counts of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, and fraud under $5,000. Police say the fraud charge relates to trying to buy something using a stolen credit card.
The total losses are not confirmed, but charges suggest damages could go beyond $250,000. He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Police believe Ass’ad did not work alone. They are searching for more suspects linked to these break-ins. Anyone with information should contact Peel Regional Police or use Peel Crime Stoppers to provide anonymous tips.
