Hyderabad has a high rate of breast cancer, recording 54 cases per one lakh women. This rate is more than double the national average of 26.6. To raise awareness, the Star Cancer Centre organized a cyclothon on Sunday, drawing 1,000 cyclists. The event focused on personalised care and the power of community action. Senior consultant Sainath Bhethanabhotla, head of Medical Oncology, told participants, “Hyderabad carries a concerning tag due to high breast cancer incidence. Other cancers are also on the rise.” He stressed the need for proactive screening to catch cancer early. The cyclothon aimed to encourage women to take charge of their health and promote regular check-ups.
