In a spicy twist in Guntur's crime tale, a man named Potineni Gopi was caught red-handed and sentenced to six months’ simple imprisonment! This happened after he nabbed an auto-rickshaw valued at ₹50,000 from the Guntur APSRTC bus stand last year. The auto was parked safely by 51-year-old Derangula Veeraswamy, a community member of Vaddera, on the night of August 12, 2024. But when Veeraswamy returned, the rickshaw had vanished like magic. The complaint was officially filed with Head Constable Shaik Kareemulla Sharif on September 3, 2024. The police wasted no time and launched an investigation. They tracked down 33-year-old Gopi from Vadlamudi village in Chebrolu mandal, who was then brought before the court. On Monday, the judge, Honourable Mohammad Gouse of the VI Additional Junior Civil Judge Court in Guntur, gave Gopi a firm slap on the wrist by sentencing him under Section 271(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Gopi must now spend six months in simple imprisonment. The police added a spicy detail — Gopi is no stranger to trouble! He already has a 'rowdy sheet' and is serving time in Rajamahendravaram Central Prison under the Preventive Detention Act. Looks like this is not his first rodeo! The entire episode unfolded like a gripping drama near Guntur’s busy bus stand, reminding us all to keep a close eye on our vehicles! Crime doesn’t pay, and justice came knocking fast this time around.
