Texas Raids Two Indian Jewelry Stores Linked to $30 Million Gold Scam Targeting Elderly
February 2, 2026
Two Indian jewelry stores in Texas, Tilak Jewellers and Saima Jewellers, were raided as part of a massive scam targeting senior citizens. The Collin County sheriff's office revealed that these shops operated an illegal gold melting setup. They handled gold and silver seized worth more than $30 million.
The scam started with fraudsters sending emails to elderly Texans. The scammers told them they were linked to crimes and warned that they would be arrested unless they bought gold and handed it to designated couriers. More than 200 victims, all over 65 years old, were contacted this way.
Several couriers were arrested during the probe. They admitted to selling some of the stolen gold to the two Indian jewelry stores. Inside these stores, investigators found setups to melt gold to make light jewelry and bracelets.
Sheriff Jim Skinner said, "What these folks are doing is they're liquidating these assets by smelting the gold down, making jewelry, and just going home with it." Both stores have been shut down, and one has been declared a fire hazard. Many more scam victims came forward after the raids.
