Foxconn’s factory in Devanahalli, known for assembling Apple iPhones, received a notice for property tax dues. The plant, a major project started in 2022-23, has not shared details of its built-up area with Koyira Gram Panchayat. This prevents the Panchayat from raising a full tax demand. "They are yet to submit details of their built up area for us to raise a tax demand. Right now, we only have details of the empty land for which we have raised a tax demand. But the firm needs to submit details of the buildings that have come up in the facility, based on which we have to raise property tax demands. Over two years after the buildings have been completed, the firm is yet to submit these details to the gram panchayat," said Sudha Srinivas, president of Koyira Gram Panchayat. Foxconn has been given a month’s time, ending February 7, to respond to the notice. Sources say the company has not yet replied. Meanwhile, local villagers are unhappy. They claim the facility neither provided promised jobs nor paid taxes. Ms. Srinivas highlighted this brewing discontent among residents. If Foxconn does not reply positively by the deadline, villagers plan a protest. The Hindu sent a query to Foxconn but received no response as of now.
