Manipur Police Seize Arms, Explosives and Arrest Two Militants Amid Ethnic Unrest

Security forces in Manipur recovered arms, explosives, and arrested two militants in separate operations, police said on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The cache was found near Bongmol and SL Zougam villages in Tengnoupal district. It included one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, two pistols, two single-barrel rifles, eleven live rounds, three radio sets, and IED wires. Officials also "safely disposed of" 18 IEDs at the site, the police statement added. Two militants from banned groups were arrested in Imphal West district. A member of Peoples’ Liberation Army was caught on Monday, February 2, at Lambal Awang Leikai. Another from Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup was arrested on Sunday, February 1, in Mayang Imphal. Manipur has faced ethnic violence since May 3, 2023, after a tribal march protested the Meitei community’s ST status demand. So far, 260 people, including Kukis, Meiteis, and security personnel, have died, and thousands are homeless. The state has been under President’s Rule since February 2025.
