Parliament Debate Continues; Rahul Gandhi Sparks Row Over Naravane Memoir
February 3, 2026
Both Houses of Parliament will continue the motion of thanks on the President’s address on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Congress has demanded that the Modi government take Parliament into confidence and lay the texts of both the EU and US trade deals on the table for debate.
A major political row broke out on Monday, February 2, 2026. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi tried to quote from an unpublished "memoir" of former Army chief M.M. Naravane on the 2020 India-China conflict. He used it to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. BJP leaders hit back, accusing Gandhi of misleading the House and belittling the armed forces.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla disallowed Gandhi from raising the issue. But Gandhi did not back down, and several opposition leaders supported him. The House was adjourned twice and then for the day amid uproar. There were heated exchanges between the treasury benches and the opposition.
