Russia renewed its attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure early Tuesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported more than 70 missiles and 450 drones were fired. This strike left over 1,000 homes in Kyiv without heating as temperatures plummeted to nearly minus 20 degrees Celsius. The overnight attack damaged the Motherland monument, a famous Soviet-era World War II memorial in Kyiv. Ukraine's culture minister, Tetyana Berezhna, said on social media, "It is both symbolic and cynical: the aggressor state strikes at a place of remembrance of the struggle against aggression in the 20th century, repeating its crimes in the 21st century." The attack on energy and culture highlights continuing harsh challenges faced by Kyiv amid the conflict.
