Dubai is going underground with its newest transport plan. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), working with Elon Musk’s The Boring Company, is set to start building the Dubai Loop. This first phase focuses on two busy spots: Downtown Dubai and Dubai Marina. The full pilot covers 17 km with 11 stations. It aims to create a speedy “wormhole” bypassing the gridlock on Sheikh Zayed Road. The Dubai Loop is a high-speed underground system using electric vehicles designed to cut travel times and reduce traffic. Officials say it could carry over 20,000 passengers hourly. The project, first announced in 2025, will connect with Dubai Metro and bus networks, offering climate-controlled stations and smooth rides. Initial construction targets the section between Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Dubai Mall, busy corridors linking business and leisure hubs. This phase will test the system before expanding citywide. In a related project, Emirati company URB is building THE LOOP, a 93 km climate-controlled cycling and walking highway encircling the city. This glass tunnel promotes eco-friendly travel with kinetic floors generating electricity from footsteps. RTA officials, including Matar Al Tayer, say construction on the Dubai Loop will start soon. Test runs could begin in 2026, paving the way for a futuristic transport system that will transform daily commutes in Dubai.
