On Tuesday, gig workers unions tied to ride-hailing platforms, including autorickshaws, announced an "All India Breakdown" strike. The protest is set for Saturday, February 7, 2026, and will see workers off the roads for at least six hours. The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union, Indian Labour Welfare Federation, All India Transport Union Congress, and others are backing the action. The unions want to highlight government inaction on fare exploitation by app-based aggregator platforms. They said aggregators fix fares without reason, causing hardship and poor work conditions for workers. The unions called this a violation of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines. They demand that both Union and State Governments set minimum base fares across app-based transport services. They also asked for better enforcement of rules banning non-commercial vehicles from commercial use, including taxis.
