Magnitude 6 Earthquake in Myanmar Shakes Kolkata and Northeast India

On Tuesday evening, a magnitude 6 earthquake hit Myanmar at 9:04 p.m. IST, shaking Kolkata and adjoining regions. People in high-rise buildings and offices felt the aftershocks. The tremors lasted a few seconds. An official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed the epicenter was in Myanmar. "The epicentre of the earthquake was somewhere in Myanmar. We are ascertaining the details of the quake," the official said. The IMD later stated the quake occurred at a depth of 27 km at latitude 20.42 North and longitude 93.88 East. There are no immediate reports of damage or injury.
