Texas Journalist Exposes Indian Recruiters' H-1B Visa Scam on LinkedIn
February 4, 2026
Texas journalist Sara Gonzales has exposed a major scam involving Indian recruiters offering H-1B visa jobs through LinkedIn. Gonzales found many fake companies with non-working phone numbers and offices only in India. These firms rent virtual coworking spaces to appear legitimate but have no real presence.
Gonzales said, "Let me be clear to the fraudsters. We are not done. Keep watching. It may be you we are exposing very shortly."
Her investigation led Texas Governor Greg Abbott to freeze H-1B hiring in state agencies. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched investigations into three private companies linked to the scam.
In just one evening of research, Gonzales found many Indian recruiters posting H-1B-only job ads on LinkedIn. She revealed that some ads targeted H-4 visa holders, dependents of H-1B workers. Gonzales explained, "You get in, you bring your whole family, your children need to be taught by another H-1B, who then brings their family. It is a recurring, never-ending cycle."
Gonzales said H-1B visas are meant for very niche skills when American talent cannot be found. She also accused IT consulting firms of not paying H-1B workers the full amount they charge companies.
"If you are a Green Card holder, if you came to this country as a foreign national and paid your dues, you still do not need to apply. We don't want you. We want the non-immigrant visas. What a slap in the face," she added. This report shines a harsh light on visa misuse and recruitment scams exploiting workers and the system.
