The Lok Sabha was adjourned on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after eight MPs were suspended during ongoing protests by the Opposition. Seven Congress members and one CPI(M) MP were suspended for the rest of the Budget session for throwing bits of paper at the Chair. Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, Opposition MPs questioned the government about the India-US trade deal, urging it to protect Indian farmers from its adverse effects. Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader John Brittas criticized the government, saying it treats the Upper House as “inferior to Elon Musk’s X platform,” since the trade deal was announced on social media while Parliament was in session. On the same day, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, wrote a letter to Speaker Om Birla protesting his disallowance from speaking on a national security issue. He called it a “blot” on democracy. Gandhi said the Speaker had asked him to authenticate a magazine he wanted to refer to regarding the India-China conflict of 2020 during the Motion on the President’s address.
