South Western Railway (SWR) has been granted ₹2,110 crore to redevelop 61 railway stations in Karnataka under the Amrit Station Scheme. The total budget for SWR in the financial year 2026-27 is now ₹7,748 crore. On February 2, SWR Additional General Manager P. Anath told reporters in Hubballi that redevelopment work has finished at stations including Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Gokak Road, and Munirabad. Four other stations — Badami, Alnavar, Koppal, and Bantwal — are set to begin redevelopment soon. Since 2014, SWR has laid around 1,750 km of new railway tracks in Karnataka. Electrification has reached 97% of the network, with 3,368 km of railway lines electrified, making train operations more energy-efficient and eco-friendly. Mr. Anath added, "Additionally, 707 flyovers and underpasses have been constructed to enhance safety and ensure smoother road–rail connectivity." Karnataka’s train services have improved with 12 pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains and 3 pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains running, offering faster and more comfortable travel. Goa is also seeing growth under SWR with an average budget allocation of ₹515 crore in 2026-27. Currently, infrastructure work worth ₹4,344 crore is underway in Goa for capacity building, station redevelopment, and safety. Three Goa stations are being redeveloped at a cost of ₹65 crore under the Amrit Station Scheme. Two pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains are now running in Goa, enhancing connectivity. The improvements under SWR aim to boost travel convenience and safety across Karnataka and Goa.
