At least 17 Palestinians have died in Israeli strikes in northern and southern Gaza, hospitals say. Israel’s military reported that the strikes followed gunfire from "terrorists" in the north, which seriously wounded one Israeli soldier during an operation near the Yellow Line. This line marks the territory controlled by Israel under the three-month-old ceasefire with Hamas. In response to what it called a "blatant violation" of the truce, Israeli armoured units and aircraft carried out precise strikes in the area. Hospital officials confirmed six children were among the dead in Gaza City and Khan Younis. Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City received 13 bodies, including five children killed when tents and homes in the eastern Zeitoun and Tuffah neighbourhoods were hit. Nasser hospital in Khan Younis reported four dead, including one child, after strikes on tents in the southern Qizan Rashwan area. Since the ceasefire began on 10 October, both Israel and Hamas have blamed each other for almost daily violations. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry states that at least 529 people have been killed by Israeli fire so far. Meanwhile, the Israeli military says four soldiers have been killed by Palestinian attacks. The conflict began with Hamas’s attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 hostage. Israel’s military response has led to over 71,800 deaths in Gaza, according to the local health ministry.
