Norway's Crown Princess's Son Denies Remembering Sexual Assault Videos in Court
February 5, 2026
Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norway’s crown princess Mette-Marit, told an Oslo court he does not recall taking videos and pictures found on his phone showing him sexually assaulting a woman at a royal residence. Høiby faces 38 charges, including four rapes and assaults, with up to 16 years in prison if convicted. He pleaded not guilty to the most serious charges. The alleged incidents took place during a 2018 party at Skaugum, the crown prince and princess's official home, while they were upstairs.
On the stand, Høiby said the woman appeared to be asleep in the videos but denied raping her. He said, "I don’t sleep with women who are not awake." He admitted to having consensual sex with the woman earlier but could not recall taking the footage. Høiby added he stored sexual pictures and videos in a separate app only for himself.
The woman testified that she had consensual sex with Høiby earlier that night but had no memory of the later assault until police showed her the videos. She described being "completely unconscious" and believed she was drugged. She tearfully called the incident a "betrayal and a shock" and said, "Unfortunately, I have been, thanks to Marius Borg Høiby."
Høiby also spoke of the pressures of being the crown princess’s son. He said, "I have had an extreme need for validation," which led to "a lot of sex, a lot of drugs, and a lot of alcohol." The case adds to the strain on the Norwegian royal family, which faces criticism over Mette-Marit's ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
